BC Ferries has announced an early transition to its peak-season schedule, effective June 11, 2026, in a move to accommodate high travel volumes anticipated for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which features seven matches at B.C. Place in Vancouver.
This operational shift, occurring two weeks earlier than in previous years, includes the addition of 1,800 round-trip sailings to the system.
To bolster reliability following a spring season characterized by mechanical challenges, the company has completed refits on 22 vessels and hired over 630 seasonal staff, including 124 returning employees.
Additionally, four new 'Island Class' vessels are being deployed to increase capacity across specific routes.
As the system braces for an expected 350,000 visitors, BC Ferries is also incentivizing travel during off-peak times by adding over 200,000 discounted tickets to its 'Saver' fare program, accounting for approximately 30 percent of total bookable space.
Officials have stated that every ship in the fleet will be in service daily to manage the demand, noting that the system is operating with minimal room for further delays.
