Evergreen Cultural Centre to Host "Fishing Kitchen Party" for New Art Exhibition
COQUITLAM, BC — The Evergreen Cultural Centre has announced it will host an opening reception on Thursday, June 11, to celebrate its newest art exhibition, titled Lure. Billed as a "Fishing Kitchen Party," the free public event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the centre's lobby at 1205 Pinetree Way.
The evening is designed to emulate a traditional East Coast kitchen party, featuring food, conversation, and live entertainment. Port Moody-based musical duo Adam and Sarah Faber will provide live music for the event. The schedule also includes a 30-minute open mic session, where attendees are encouraged to share their own fishing-related stories, poetry, and songs.
The reception serves as the official launch for Lure, a thematic group exhibition that examines the practice of fishing through the perspectives of six contemporary artists. The collection features works by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists from across Canada, highlighting geographical connections to the Pacific, Arctic, and Atlantic Oceans, as well as various freshwater systems.
According to the exhibition overview, the collection explores the complex social and cultural significance of fishing across the country, touching on its roles in subsistence, commercial livelihood, sport, and ritual. Financial support for the Lure exhibition is provided by the Deux Mille Foundation.
Members of the public seeking additional information regarding the opening reception or the exhibition can contact the Evergreen Cultural Centre directly.
