Surrey, BC – The Surrey Police Service (SPS) has confirmed a tragic incident on May 29, 2026, where officers responded to a stabbing that left one person dead and another injured. The event escalated when officers confronted the male suspect, resulting in an officer-involved shooting where the suspect was fatally wounded.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, SPS Frontline members were dispatched to the 13300 block of Old Yale Road following reports of an assault. Upon arrival, police discovered two victims suffering from stab wounds. Emergency medical interventions were immediately administered by SPS members and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS). Tragically, one victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the second victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The male suspect, who had left the initial scene, was located a short distance away. A confrontation with police ensued, during which officers discharged their service-issued duty pistols, seriously injuring the suspect. The suspect was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken over the investigation into the stabbing incident. Concurrently, the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) has been engaged to review the police actions during the confrontation, including the officer-involved shooting. As the IIO BC is investigating police actions, further information regarding this aspect will be released by their office.
