COQUITLAM - Local students are getting a direct line to employers and post-secondary programs at the upcoming SD43 Skilled Trades Expo.
Why it matters: With demand for skilled trades surging, this open-door event bridges the critical gap between emerging, trained youth talent and the local industries eager to hire them.
Driving the news: The free hiring and networking fair takes place Wednesday, June 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Secondary (570 Poirier St.).
What's new: School District 43 recently changed the event's name to reflect an expanded scope.
It's no longer just about immediate hiring—it now includes organizations showcasing post-secondary programs and long-term career pathways in hands-on fields.
Who it's for: * The heavy hitters: It’s targeted at students in SD43’s 25+ Level 1 Technical Training Programs (including auto service, carpentry, electrical, cooking, and piping) and graduating seniors looking for immediate work.
The up-and-comers: Grade 10 and 11 students are expected to attend to hunt for summer jobs. SD43 is urging employers to offer these entry-level gigs to help build students' confidence and keep them in the trades long-term.
For employers: It’s a completely free recruitment opportunity.
Companies get a complimentary table (indoor or outdoor space is available).
Interested businesses just need to fill out a single online registration form.
The bottom line: Students don't need to register—they just need to walk through the doors at Centennial Secondary with a resume in hand and be ready to talk.
