Creative BC, the independent non-profit society dedicated to supporting British Columbia's creative industries, has appointed Laura Lightbown as its Interim Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Lightbown will assume her new role on June 1, 2026, taking over from outgoing CEO Prem Gill, who is set to depart on June 26, 2026, after a decade of leadership.
Ms. Lightbown brings nearly three decades of extensive experience within Canada’s domestic film and television industry to Creative BC. Her distinguished career includes producing, executive producing, and advising on feature films and TV series across the country. She previously served as CEO of Haddock Entertainment and held key positions at Sparrow Media Inc., consistently advocating for Canadian content and talent. Furthermore, Ms. Lightbown’s recent tenure as Secretary Treasurer on the Creative BC Board of Directors provides invaluable insight and continuity for the organization.
Bill Tam, Chair of the Creative BC Board of Directors, expressed confidence in the appointment, stating, “Laura’s distinguished career, coupled with her recent experience as Secretary Treasurer on the Creative BC Board, provides invaluable insight and continuity. Her proven leadership and deep commitment to the sector make her the ideal person to guide Creative BC during this critical interim period, building on the strong foundation Prem has established.”
Prem Gill will remain with Creative BC through the handover period, acting as a strategic advisor to Ms. Lightbown to ensure a seamless leadership transition for British Columbia's vibrant creative industries. Ms. Lightbown commented on her appointment, “It is an honour to step into the role of Interim CEO for Creative BC, an organization I deeply respect and have had the privilege of serving on the Board. I am committed to working closely with Prem to ensure a seamless transition and to leading our dedicated team in maintaining Creative BC’s strong leadership in the sector.”
The Creative BC Board of Directors has indicated that a comprehensive national search will be initiated for a permanent Chief Executive Officer.
