Port Coquitlam, BC – Construction for Phase 3 of the Kingsway Avenue Upgrades project is slated to commence in early June 2026, continuing through February 2027, subject to weather conditions. This critical City capital project will focus on the stretch between McLean Avenue and Coast Meridian Road, as well as enhancements at Tyner Street.

This phase builds upon the successes of previous stages, with Phase 1 delivering a new multi-use pathway along the north side of Kingsway, completed in December 2024, and Phase 2 reconfiguring lanes, finalized in November 2025. The upcoming improvements will include significant intersection traffic flow enhancements, upgrades to traffic signals, lane reconfiguration to incorporate a shared center left-turn lane, and new sidewalk installations. Additionally, the project will address drainage and sanitary sewer infrastructure, along with lighting upgrades.

Work is scheduled for daytime hours, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with potential Saturday work as needed. Specific work near intersections requiring signal operation changes will occur during nighttime hours, Monday to Friday, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with Saturday night work on an as-needed basis.

Efforts will be made to maintain two-way traffic during peak morning and evening rush hours and whenever feasible. In instances where two-way traffic cannot be sustained, single-lane alternating traffic will be implemented. Commuters are strongly advised to plan their routes in advance and consider alternative options. Detours may be in place at various points, and some sections of the multi-use pathway could experience temporary impacts, with clear signage to guide users.

Businesses and properties in the construction zones are expected to remain accessible throughout the project. The City and its contractors are committed to minimizing disruptions and will provide advance notice if temporary access interruptions become necessary.

This $3.3 million phase of the Kingsway Avenue upgrades is partially funded by a $500,000 contribution from TransLink’s Major Road Network (MRN) and Bike BC programs, underscoring a commitment to enhancing safety and transportation infrastructure in line with the city’s Master Transportation Plan.
