The Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex in Coquitlam is set to undergo its annual scheduled maintenance, necessitating a temporary closure from Tuesday, June 2, through June 28. The facility is expected to resume full operations on June 29.

During this period, the complex's fitness centre and weight room will have a shorter closure, from June 2 to June 8, reopening on Tuesday, June 9. While the main facility is closed, the reception desk and café will maintain reduced operating hours.

City officials, including Community Recreation Manager Michael Fox, emphasize that this annual maintenance is crucial for the longevity of the facility, mitigating equipment breakdowns, and ensuring a safe environment for both staff and the public. The extensive, nearly year-round public use of the swimming pool requires these specific maintenance and cleaning tasks to be performed while the facility is closed.

Residents seeking alternative aquatic options can utilize the indoor swimming facilities at the City Centre Aquatic Complex, located at 1210 Pinetree Way. Additionally, Coquitlam's outdoor pools at Mundy Park (655 Hillcrest Street) and Eagle Ridge (2689 Guildford Way) are scheduled to open for the season on May 30. Information regarding alternative drop-in fitness classes and weight room access at other City facilities can be found at coquitlam.ca/fitness.
