Port Coquitlam is gearing up for its annual City-Wide Garage Sale, scheduled for Friday, June 13, 2026. This popular community event encourages residents to host their own garage sales from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., promoting reuse, recycling, and neighborly connection.
To participate as a seller, residents must register their addresses by June 7, 2026. This registration ensures their inclusion on an official event map and searchable list, which will be made available to bargain hunters starting May 7, 2025. The initiative aims to help participants dispose of unwanted items in an environmentally friendly manner, as bargain hunters explore sales across the community.
The city offers several tips for hosts, including putting up signs (a printable template is available), preparing with small change, and pricing items in advance. Hosts are also encouraged to invite neighbors to participate simultaneously to attract more shoppers. Important safety reminders include keeping money secure, confining pets, and not inviting strangers into homes.
For shoppers, advice includes respecting start times, bringing small bills, driving carefully, and being respectful of private property. Unsold items are not collected by the city; instead, residents are encouraged to donate them to local charities such as Eagle Ridge Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop, Crossroads Hospice Society, Thrift & Fund by Low Entropy Foundation, Salvation Army Thrift Store, or Value Village, or to utilize the City's Large Item Pick-Up Program.
In addition to the garage sale, the City of Port Coquitlam continues to support community engagement through its Block Party program. This program offers a $150 Freshmart gift certificate to the first 60 approved Block Parties to help cover food and supplies, along with a 'PoCo Party Connection Kit'. Residents can apply for a Block Party permit to host gatherings in common spaces, cul-de-sacs, or on low-traffic roads, fostering stronger community bonds.
