PORT COQUITLAM, BC — The City of Port Coquitlam will launch its five-week "PoCo's Soccer Socials" public viewing series with an opening event on Thursday, June 11. Beginning at 12:00 p.m. with a live broadcast of the Mexico versus South Africa match, the free community gathering at Terry Fox Hometown Square will mark the start of the municipality's localized festivities for the international soccer tournament.

Located in the licensed landing area outside the Jon Baillie Arena at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre at 2150 Wilson Avenue, the outdoor venue accommodates up to 800 attendees with a mix of standing and seating areas. The primary broadcast will be displayed on a large outdoor screen provided by Valley Tech, while a smaller secondary screen will operate inside the Community Centre to allow attendees to track concurrent matches when schedules overlap.

Supported by a $30,000 grant from the Province of British Columbia, the viewing series will broadcast select international matches through July 19. Attendees are permitted to bring beverages from the licensed area outdoors to watch the games, and an on-site concession will provide food and drinks featuring specialized game-day menus throughout the tournament. Free underground parking will be available on-site for visitors.

The city has designated Canada’s group stage matches as "elevated dates" that will feature expanded, family-friendly programming. These scheduled events include Canada's opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, June 12 at 12:00 p.m., a match against Qatar on Thursday, June 18 at 3:00 p.m., and a match against Switzerland on Wednesday, June 24 at 12:00 p.m. Supplementary activities on these days will include participation from the PoCo Soccer club, arts and culture programming, youth-focused initiatives coordinated by PoCo Youth, and a municipal information booth offering giveaways.

In partnership with the Downtown Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association, the city is coordinating with local hospitality businesses to animate the downtown core during the tournament. Restaurants and cafés are being encouraged to feature country-inspired menus, lunch and dinner specials, and soccer-themed promotions. A directory of participating local businesses is being maintained on the city's official website.

The Port Coquitlam Community Centre operates from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays, and from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekends, with matches being shown during regular facility hours. Organizers advise attendees to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets, dress for the weather, and wear red and white on days when the Canadian national team plays.
