Premier David Eby today expressed significant disapproval over a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of Alberta and the federal government, asserting that Canada should not incentivize provinces that threaten secession. In a pointed statement, Premier Eby emphasized British Columbia's substantial economic contributions and its array of prioritized projects awaiting federal attention.

Eby highlighted that British Columbia boasts an impressive "$88 billion in prioritized projects," some of which have already secured final investment decisions, creating thousands of high-paying jobs. He further identified 35 additional job-creating projects that, he argues, require more focused attention and coordinated efforts from Ottawa. The Premier directly challenged the federal government, stating that it must engage with British Columbia on these initiatives with the same intensity as it does with Alberta on Premier Danielle Smith's proposed pipeline, a project Eby noted currently lacks a defined proponent or route.

Underscoring B.C.'s strategic value, Eby pointed to the province's rich reserves of critical minerals, abundant natural resources, and crucial port access, assets he believes are vital for national prosperity. He also reiterated the B.C. government’s unwavering opposition to any reversal of the North Coast tanker ban.

Looking ahead, Premier Eby announced that he is scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister next week. During this meeting, he intends to present a comprehensive list of B.C. projects ripe for federal collaboration, aiming to forge a path forward that benefits all Canadians. This announcement follows a separate agreement on May 14 regarding the proposed Phase 2 expansion of LNG Canada's Kitimat facility, involving the federal government and B.C. government.
